Travels with my Mavic - Episode 2 - St Martha's Hill - Guildford, UK
A very breezy day had me fighting the controls after my Mavic Pro found it too windy to use some of the intelligent flight modes that I wanted to try out.
I had a spotter with me and I was constantly aware of visitors in the vicinity and used a couple of editing techniques to enhance the footage.
Once again I was amazed at the stability of the drone at winds gusting up to 23 MPH. St Martha's Church stands on the Pilgrims way which is also the North Downs way in Guildford and it stretches as Far East as Canterbury. Sitting atop the hill is a quite delightful church and cemetery and it looks out over the Surrey Hills. I parked in Halfpenny Lane Car Park and took a short but steep walk up to the church.
Fortunately this was a really nice day, the sun was out and for January it was looking promising, the only problem was with the wind, it was gusty, I had 23-28 mph winds which again was a piece of cake for the Drone but the controller kept telling me to land. The Intelligent flight mode will not work in those conditions so for this video I shot everything manually.
I also managed to take some stills which looked really nice. There is something very unique about the aerial perspective. I know its been done to death but They are still very nice to see.
I follow the Drone Code and fly with extreme caution If you visit St. Martha’s Church, please be aware of the Drone Code and make sure you are insured to Fly and you’re registered with the CAA. Although not PfCO accredited as yet, I have a course booked in and will be attending soon.
